ฝนตกทีไร หลาย ๆ ท่านอาจมีอาการ ไอ จาม น้ำมูกไหล เป็น ๆ หาย ๆ จนทำให้สงสัย ว่าอาการเหล่านี้เกิดจากภูมิแพ้ หรือ ไข้หวัดกันแน่ ซึ่ง 2 โรคนี้มีสิ่งที่คล้ายคลึงกันคือ ลักษณะอาการ เนื่องจากเป็นโรคติดเชื้อในระบบทางเดินหายใจ จึงสามารถมีอาการแสดงคล้ายคลึงกันได้ ตั้งแต่มีอาการเล็กน้อยไปจนถึงอาการรุนแรง การทำความรู้จักอาการของทั้ง 2 โรค จะช่วยให้สามารถแยกอาการแตกต่างของโรคออกจากกันได้

โรคภูมิแพ้ เป็นโรคที่เกิดจากการตอบสนองของร่างกายที่ไวต่อสารก่อภูมิแพ้มากกว่าปกติ ทำให้เกิดอาการผิดปกติกับอวัยวะที่สัมผัสสารก่อภูมิแพ้นั้นๆ ซึ่งผู้ป่วยโรคนี้แต่ละคนจะมีอาการแตกต่างกันและความรุนแรงไม่เท่ากัน เพราะชนิดของสารก่อภูมิแพ้ที่ได้รับและการตอบสนองของร่างกายแต่ละบุคคลต่างกัน อาการของผู้ป่วยโรคภูมิแพ้จะเกิดตามอวัยวะที่มีการอักเสบจากการกระตุ้นของสารก่อภูมิแพ้ ได้แก่ จาม ไอไปถึงหอบ มีอาการน้ำตาไหล คันตา คัน/คัดจมูก อาจมีน้ำมูกไหล แน่นหน้าอก หายใจไม่คล่อง หรือเกิดผื่นแพ้ต่างๆ ได้ การรักษาคือ ควรดูแลตัวเอง หลีกเลี่ยงจากสิ่งกระตุ้นที่ทำให้เกิดอาการแพ้ ใช้ยาตามแพทย์สั่ง อาจล้างจมูก พ่นยาจมูก เพื่อป้องกันไม่ให้อาการกำเริบได้

ไข้หวัด เป็นโรคติดเชื้อที่ได้พบบ่อย เกิดจากการติดเชื้อไวรัสซึ่งมีหลายสายพันธุ์ มักพบในช่วงที่มีอากาศเปลี่ยนแปลง ความรุนแรงของโรคไม่มากและสามารถหายเองได้ภายในไม่กี่วัน สามารถติดต่อผ่านทางน้ำมูก น้ำลายและเสมหะ โดยการหายใจเอาเชื้อที่กระจายจากการไอ จาม หรือมือที่เปื้อนเชื้อโรคสัมผัสจมูกหรือตา อาการของโรคหวัด ได้แก่ คัดจมูก น้ำมูกไหลลักษณะใส ไอมีเสหะ จาม เจ็บคอ เสียงแหบ อาจมีอาการไข้ต่ำๆ ปวดศีรษะเล็กน้อย ในผู้ใหญ่อาการจะน้อยมากอาจมีแค่คัดจมูกและน้ำมูกไหล (ยกเว้นผู้ที่มีโรคประจำตัวเป็นโรคทางการหายใจ) อาการของโรคมักเป็นไม่เกิน 2-5 วัน แต่อาจมีน้ำมูกไหลนาน 10-14 วันกล่าวคือ ติดต่อโดยการหายใจเอาละอองน้ำมูก น้ำลาย และเสมหะของผู้ป่วยที่ไอ หรือ จาม และการสัมผัสมือ หรือการใช้สิ่งของเครื่องใช้ต่างๆ ร่วมกับผู้ป่วย

การวินิจฉัยอาการและโรคให้ตรงจุด นำไปสู่การรักษาโรคและดูแลตนเองได้อย่างเหมาะสม อีกทั้งการหมั่นดูแลร่างกายให้แข็งแรง ด้วยการรับประทานอาหารที่มีประโยชน์ ออกกำลังกายให้สม่ำเสมอ และพักผ่อนให้เพียงพอ ย่อมช่วยบรรเทาอาการที่จะเกิดขึ้นได้เป็นอย่างดี
